– Animal Mediation –

Chapô : After 10 years walking the trails with my donkeys, I decided to make them more than just carriers. Their big ears hold magical powers. I trained in donkey-assisted therapy. Discover what it’s all about!

What is animal mediation?

Animal mediation is about fostering positive relationships between humans and animals, with the goal of creating interactions that pursue objectives defined in advance by the mediator.
With donkeys — pack animals, peaceful, close to humans for more than 6,000 years, and endowed with great sensitivity — many areas can be worked on:

  • Self-confidence
  • Autonomy and initiative

  • Stress management
  • Easing fears and anxieties
  • Social skills
  • Well-being and enjoyment
  • Balance and motor skills

How does a donkey-assisted mediation session work?

There is no standard session. Everything depends on the person’s needs and wishes. Sessions can be individual or in small groups of 2 or 3 people maximum, sharing the same goal. In any case, a prior discussion is necessary to adapt the session to the person’s needs.

For example, for work on self-confidence or autonomy, the person may gradually brush, care for, put on the halter, and lead the donkey on short walks. For stress management or fears, it might be recommended to lie down on the donkey’s side, or even ride gradually over the course of sessions. For recent traumas, contact will be prioritized: feeling the breath, the rhythm of breathing, a more static type of work. With people experiencing cognitive or emotional difficulties, we may draw on the donkey with green clay.

As you can see, depending on the objectives and the person, everything is possible.

And if you simply want to discover, without a specific goal but with a touch of curiosity, discovery sessions are also available.
